While we know it’s a pain, every room in your home needs a deep clean from time to time. This is especially the case for your bathroom. After all, just think about how much dirt and grime enters your bathroom every day. The warm, humid conditions in the bathroom can often mean that bacteria is rife, and it can unfortunately make the atmosphere unhealthy if you don’t give it a good thorough clean every so often. We know it can be tough to find the time to get on top of all the cleaning, and sometimes we can only find the time for a quick wipe over, which over time, could lead to a buildup that takes a bit of scrubbing to get rid of. Here, we save you some time planning what to use and how to clean the bathroom when you do get a bit of free time for a deeper clean.

Bathroom cleaning checklist
Keep this checklist handy to help you when you clean the bathroom:
1. Remove
- Your rubbish bin (and empty it)
- Dirty laundry
- Anything on the bathroom countertops
- Bath rugs or mats
2. Spray
Apply your preferred cleaning product to the parts of your bathroom that need to be cleaned. You can allow the product to soak in while other areas are being cleaned.
- Toilet
- Shower
- Bathtub
- Sinks and taps
3. Wipe
You can use a sponge or rag to wipe the surfaces, working from the ceiling down to the floor. Wipe down every surface in your bathroom, except the toilet and mirror. This includes:
- Countertops and vanities
- Sinks and taps
- Shower fixtures
- Curtain rods
- Vent fans
- Light fixtures
4. Scrub

You should now go back to the areas you sprayed before. Use a stiff brush or a sponge to get rid of mildew and soap scum. Use clean water to rinse the area or rinse your sponge in the sink while you are scrubbing.
- Toilet
- Shower door glass
- Bathtub
- Shower walls
5. Floor
Next, you should vacuum the bathmats and floor. The Invictus X9 is a good option. Use a microfibre mop or steam mop with disinfectant to finish cleaning the floors.
Shine
The final part of the process when you clean the bathroom is to make sure it shines. After all, it is the details that make all of the difference and you’ll really enjoy going in there when it’s all shiny and bright. Use a dry rag to buff and shine everything.
- Mirror
- Knobs and handles
- Drain caps
- Fixtures and faucets
Tips on deep cleaning your bathroom
Now that we have provided you with all of the steps you need to follow when cleaning your bathroom, let’s take a look at some tips and pieces of advice that can help make sure that your bathroom is sparkling for longer.
Prevent blockages in the plughole
To make sure that your drains run freely, we recommend pouring one cup of baking soda crystals down the drain, followed by some boiling water. This will help to banish odours while getting rid of soap scum and grease. Don’t forget to wear rubber gloves while you are doing this so that your skin does not get irritated. You can also dissolve any dirt by slugging some bicarbonate and vinegar down the plug. Lemon juice can also help in terms of getting rid of any strong smells. Always finish off the job with plenty of hot water.
Give yourself a head start
You can make your task a lot easier by giving yourself a head start. To do this, spray some toilet cleaner around the rim of the toilet, leaving it to work its magic while you get on with your other jobs. Once you have done these tasks, grab a stiff-bristled toilet brush, scrub the toilet bowl, pop the lid down, then hit the flush button. You can neutralise odours by pouring a cup’s worth of bicarbonate of soda down the toilet bowl. We recommend doing this once per week. Wipe the toilet handle with disinfectant, leaving it to work for around five minutes before drying.
Don’t underestimate the importance of ventilation
Ventilation is a must in any bathroom. When you shower, you should always either open the bathroom window or switch on your extractor fan, as this will prevent unsightly mould from developing. If there is mould that is already there, you should use an old toothbrush that is dipped in a solution of four parts water and one part bleach and then scrub the discoloured grout to get it looking its best. You can also machine wash your shower curtains, or if this is not possible, soak them in a diluted bleach solution.
Keep limescale away

You should never use abrasive cleaners on your taps. Rather, you should soak a cloth in a solution that is made of equal parts of water and equal parts of white vinegar. You can then get rid of the limescale by wrapping the cloth around the sprout. Another option is to purchase a descaling product and follow the instructions on it. You should leave the cloth on the area for a few hours at least. After this, use water to rinse it well, and then blot dry the area so that you do not have any splash marks. To finish, wipe with a disinfectant. Make sure you do not use vinegar on any marble surrounds or gold taps.
Make sure your mirrors are streak-free
You spend ages getting your bathroom clean, only for the streaky appearance of the mirrors to let you down. We advise using a little bit of rubbing alcohol on a soft cloth to get rid of splatters of moisturiser, toothpaste, sun cream, and such like. You can then use either plain water or glass cleaner on a fine microfibre cloth, working from edge to edge and then from the top down to the bottom. Using a circular motion is not advised! You can use a little bit of white vinegar on a paper towel to buff away left-over smears and achieve that desirable sparkle.
Final words on how to deep clean your bathroom
Hopefully we’ve now given you some useful insight into how to clean the bathroom deeply and efficiently. We hope that the advice that we have provided above will help you to make sure your bathroom sparkles and looks amazing. And, if you keep on top of your cleaning schedule and use the checklist we have provided above, it will make it a much easier task when the time comes to do your deep clean.
